Appreciation of Shojin Ryori Japanese Zen Cuisine …

Happened to pick up a copy IVI Modern Living – COURSES & WORKSHOPS by Lifeskills & Lifestyle Division @ People Association (September 2009 – January 2010). In this era, Popular Chefs are invited to share recipes, hips and trendy workshops are been brought to the masses in various channel, it is all about living life to the fullest …

Surprise to spot - Appreciation of Shojin Ryori Japanese Zen Cuisine among these workshops. This is a special vegan cuisine. I have heard so much of Shojin Ryori Japanese Zen Cuisine and wanted to go for it. However, the response was so good that there were no vacancy left even there was an additional session added. And the workshop is held at GOTO Japanese Restaurant (Fine Dinning Restaurant) - http://www.singaporefinedining.com/goto-japanese-restaurant.htm

Why am I interested? As this cuisine is getting very rare even in Japan and this is the only place in Singapore that we can have a chance to explore, to taste and enjoy this special cuisine. It is an art of cooking that was popularized in the 13th century; it is about the history, the food of the Zen Temples in Japan etc … Being fascinated to Buddhism Teachings even I am not a Buddhist, I have the interest to find out about Zen Art, Zen Food in Buddhist Temples when there is a chance …

Some would comment that the price for Shojin Ryori Japanese Zen Cuisine is expensive (around S$50) for a meal, but it all depends on how it is been viewed, I guess – it is more than just a meal where you can get from the normal eateries. Just like, there are diners who are willing to pay S$198 for 7-course meal or S$48 or S$78 for a 3-course meal at the restaurant – Fifty Three @ 53 Armenian Street. …

Vegetarian or Vegan Cuisine has always projected a negative and out-dated impression in the eye of the general public, but there are lots of beauty in it. It is slowly moving into different levels yet to be discovered, it is up-to-date with the trend, it is creative, it is making vegetarian/vegan cuisine a fine art and opening a totally new territory by introducing innovative new concepts …

So … what do you think about Vegetarian/Vegan Cuisine? Old fashion, Boring, Bland ..? It is no longer the same… you will be surprise, it is evolving … : )
