Gokul Vegetarian Restaurant @ Little India


Got to know about this vegetarian restaurant via  The Hungry Ang Mo and I must say that it is a good recommendation.  Thank you very much for the suggestion and I have a wonderful meal there.

It is at Upper Dickson Road, a side road from Serangoon Road , very near to Komala's Restaurant along the same stretch. If it is not mentioned by The Hungry Ang Mo, the chance of me going there is very very slim, as it is not along the main road or around Mustafa Shopping Centre and I have not hear or read about it before.

The first piece of  good news is that this eatery does not use any onion or garlic, so it is suitable for strict Buddhist Vegetarians  who do not consume  onion or garlic. The second piece of  good news is that if you are not a big fan of Indian Vegetarian Cuisine (South or North), the extensive menu offers Asian, Chinese  dishes, Local dishes like Chinese Rojak, Tahu Goreng etc  and a good selection of desserts like Ice Kacang!  The third piece of  good news is - no service charge and no GST ...  So, it worth going there ... have a reasonable price meal in a Indian Restaurant and at the same time enjoy the Indian Music there.

The problem that I commonly encounter  in Indian Eateries  -  exactly what are the dishes and what to order?  It took me quite some time to decide and I ended up ordering MURTABAK, something I had heard before!

And what is inside ? Minced Mutton (mock meat) ...  it is delicious!
If you wonder what is Murtabak http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murtabak, it is some kind of bread that come with minced meat and curry sauce.  I opt for Murtabak Mutton (the waiter recommend it is best, and it is indeed delicious!), it is using mock meat (those mock meat that used by Chinese Vegetarian Cusine).  It came with mutton curry sauce (is spicy and just nice for me) and Dhal.  Enjoy it - my first Murtabak!

I'm glad you enjoyed the food from Gokul! Next time try the curries though, that's always the highlight of my time at Gokul. Apart from the curries, the tandoori chicken is to die for! It's also the only Indian vegetarian place that i know of that does tandoori meat.

Don't be scared to order things you don't know! When i first started eating Indian food, and Chinese for that matter, it's all trial and error! But, it's quite exciting i think!

Crystal...It's now time for you to venture to Raj Restaurant! The second best Indian eatery! You can try their many dosai's and also their South Indian Thali is the best!!! Really good value too!

Found out. According to my girlfriend, we just stumbled upon Gokul when wondering around Little India. Her memory is generally far superior to mine, so i'm inclined to believe her! Too long ago for me to remember with any clarity, haha!
